It is an interesting concept, but you definitely gone too far with a metaphor of a desktop. Metaphors doesn't have to mimic exactly the real thing, but only make a user feel more familiar with a virtual thing. I don't think this kind of desktop will increase productivity which is the most important task of the computer!

This is cooler than the final version of BumpTop, which became more 2D looking. Either way, though, it's not practical for professionals as the entire concept wastes time instead of saving it.
